Following an exciting Test match at Galle, Sri Lanka beat New Zealand, moving up to No. 3 in the 2023–25 World Test Championship table. This is the amended WTC standings following the first Test between SL and NZ.
On Monday, Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand by a score of 63 runs, recording an unforgettable victory. The home team chose to bat first and amassed 305 in the first half before nearly losing a 35-run advantage. In their second innings, they amassed 309 runs, including fifty-scores from Dimuth Karunaratne, Dinesh Chandimal, and Angelo Mathews.
With 96-6, New Zealand was far short of their aim of 274 to take the lead in the series. While wickets continued falling at the other end, Rachin Ravindra hit a solid 92 to hold one end level. With two wickets remained on Monday morning, the Black Caps had to chase down the remaining runs (68).
