Keshav Maharaj performs with dedication and passion. Maharaj, a competent right-handed bottom order batsman and calculating left arm orthodox spinner who can bowl at any point in the game, made his first-class debut for KwaZulu-Natal in 2006–07 at the age of 16. In 2009–10, he received a promotion to the Dolphins squad.
In April and May of 2010, he traveled to Bangladesh with the South Africa Academy and played two four-day matches against the Bangladesh Cricket Board Academy, taking 13 wickets. In one of the T20 matches, he also opened the bowling and took 4 for 12 off four overs. In 2010–11, he represented South Africa A in a match against Bangladesh A on tour.
In 2013 he was a Sussex Premier League player for Cuckfield. In the Lancashire League, he committed to play professionally with Nelson in 2015. His name was added to the cricket team's roster for the 2015 Africa T20 Cup representing KwaZulu-Natal.
After a strong domestic season, Keshav Maharaj, a reliable performer, stormed into the national team and was selected as the starting spinner for the tour of Australia in late 2016. Since then, Maharaj—a traditional left-arm spinner—has shown himself to be the perfect counterbalance to South Africa's outstanding pace attack. He can be South Africa's greatest asset on favorable conditions, as demonstrated by the tour of New Zealand, in which he finished as the team's top bowler with 15 wickets. He then went on to take 17 wickets in four Test matches against England. In 2017, he made his ODI debut during South Africa's tour of England, and he was also named to the Champions Trophy team.
Maharaj played Lancashire in county cricket in 2018 and Yorkshire in county cricket in 2019, with respectable results. His international career took off, and he eventually rose to prominence as South Africa's go-to spinner in red-ball cricket and a constant contender in limited-overs competitions. In the second Test of South Africa's tour to Sri Lanka, Maharaj not only became the second left-arm spinner after Rangana Herath to claim nine wickets in an innings, but he also registered his best statistics in Test cricket history, a stunning 9-129.
In a strange turn of events, Keshav Maharaj—who had not yet received a cap—was selected to lead South Africa in a T20 series against Sri Lanka. On his T20I cricket debut, Maharaj guided his side to victory and took a wicket with his very first delivery. He was included in South Africa's teams for the T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022, and he was included in the country's 15-man roster for the Cricket World Cup in 2023.
