The India team has been selected for the ICC Men's ODI World Cup in 2023. The National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru was asked to provide a health update on KL Rahul, and the BCCI selection panel led by Ajit Agarkar delayed the squad announcement till September 5. However, it is said that the selectors chose the final 15 players after learning from NCA that Rahul has fully recovered and is available for selection.
The 15-man roster has not yet been revealed. Sanju Samson, a wicketkeeper and batter, as well as the young Tilak Varma and bowler Prasidh Krishna are the three names who did not make the trip.
According to Indian Express, the Agarkar-led panel had traveled to Sri Lanka alongside Team India and met with captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid to choose the roster. The meeting allegedly took place following the cancellation of the India vs. Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 match, according to the same story. That indicates that Rohit, Agarkar, and Dravid stayed up late to finalize the 15 in a meeting.

Samson has been replaced as the backup wicketkeeper batter in the 15-man squad by Ishan Kishan. Obviously, Rohit Sharma will be the team's captain throughout the World Cup, and Shubman Gill will be his opening partner. The middle order will include Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer. Hardik Pandya, Shardul Thakur, and Axar Patel were selected as the all-rounders for the World Cup.
The pace bowling line will consist of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj, while Kuldeep Yadav will be the only wrist spinner on the team.
It is anticipated that the BCCI will also release the roster for the three-match series against Australia, which will take place in India from September 22 to 27 when they reveal the squad, possibly on September 3.
Due to KL Rahul's concerns about his fitness, the World Cup squad announcement was delayed. The Agarkar-led panel awaited the medical staff's approval. They made the decision to call a meeting as soon as they received the okay and to finalize the 15-man team.
On October 8 in Chennai's MA Chidambaram stadium, Team India will face Australia in their opening ICC ODI World Cup encounter. On October 9, they play Afghanistan, then on October 14, in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, they face off against Pakistan in the championship game. Given that the competition is being contested at home, India hasn't taken home an ICC trophy in ten years, so this is a fantastic opportunity for them to do so.
